My professional career started in Los Angeles, honing my skills as a vocalist while singing back up and playing sax in a Louisiana Rhythm & Blues Band named “Bourre”. I learned the ropes of being a music pro with this band before moving to Washington DC where I formed my own bands working the regional mid-Atlantic circuit. The “Bliss Blues Band” and the western swing “Lone Starlets”, represented by Cellar Door Entertainment, worked side by side for several years before the acting bug hit me and Patsy Cline came knocking. Three national theatrical tours followed, as did a stint in New York on Broadway, work as a director, songwriter, and record producer, and lots of big stages for “Gail Bliss” and her bands in between. All this after a humble beginning standing on my tip toes and singing at the top of my lungs in a country church in Southern Oregon. Dreams do come true.
With my latest release and my first Christmas “record”, my country, soul, gospel and R&B roots shine. As much as I enjoy to get with it on an uptempo rocker and dance across that stage, I LOVE to melt into “pretty singing” too, where a lyric can be clearly heard and embraced. My work as a recording artist and my live vocal performance honor the classic country, gospel, and bluesy music in which I am steeped, and my songwriting spans the genres of western swing, country, country gospel, contemporary christian and the blues. I had a great voice teacher in Patsy Cline and will always be honored to have been compared to her in the theatrical presentation “A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline”, and as she encouraged, “If you can’t sing it with feeling”, then, I WON’T. Welcome to “My Life”, my blog; a place where we can chat about life and you can get a glimpse into the backstory of Gail Bliss and all the things that make me go “ooh” and “aah” (vocalist, recording artist, live vocal performance) and that influence my creativity.
Together we will travel the world, go “adventure eating”, appreciate the beauty in nature and her creator, and discuss good music, good songs and great musicians. If you have particular questions or topics of inquiry, I invite you to “subscribe” to my page so that we can interact, and I will do my best to cover the territory that you are most interested in.
Thank you for joining me. I look forward to chatting with you again real soon.
Love, Gail
